For Reviewers

The Journal of Environmental and Energy Economics is committed to promoting open science and therefore maintains a rigorous peer review process. Every manuscript submitted to the journal undergoes evaluation by one or more experts in the same research field to ensure the quality and credibility of the work before publication. These independent reviewers assess each submission for originality, accuracy, and significance, helping the editors decide its suitability for publication. Reviewers are essential to maintaining the integrity of the academic record. The Journal of Environmental and Energy Economics relies on reviewers to help ensure that each submitted manuscript meets the following standards:

  • The study presents a meaningful advancement in knowledge within the journal’s specific focus area.
  • The research holds broad relevance and interest for the environmental and energy economics community.
  • The conclusions are well-supported by solid evidence.
  • The data and results are technically robust and reproducible.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

  • Possess the appropriate expertise to evaluate the scientific quality and validity of the manuscript.
  • Provide thorough, constructive, and well-reasoned review reports with helpful feedback for authors.
  • Remain engaged and responsive throughout all stages of the peer review process.
  • Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Ensure that any use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools during the review process complies strictly with confidentiality and ethical guidelines.

Reviewers must not upload manuscripts, review materials, or related content to external AI platforms, as this could breach author confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and data privacy. The peer review process depends on human expertise, accountability, and critical judgment. Therefore, AI tools should not be used for conducting scientific evaluations, as they may produce inaccurate, biased, or incomplete results. Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their review reports.

Reviewers’ Benefits

  • The reviewers receive a personalized reviewer certificate and eligible to be considered for the “Outstanding Reviewer Awards”;
  • A number of excellent reviewers have the chance to be promoted to Reviewer Board Members through the approval by the Editor(s)-in-Chief;
  • Review submissions can be credited to your Reviewer Profile through Reviewer Creditand ORCID.
  • Discount on the Article Processing Charge (APC)—If a reviewer submits a manuscript for publication in this journal, a 10% discount per MS reviewed, which can be cumulative up to 5 manuscript reviews, will be offered to get a 50% waiver on the APC.

Call for Applications: Reviewer Board Member

Journal of Environmental and Energy Economics  assembles the Reviewer Board which has the excellent reviewers inside to improve the quality and speed of peer review process of the papers. Excellent reviewers must be considered as experienced researchers who make the contribution in reviewing manuscripts regularly and providing rigorous and high-quality review reports for manuscripts. 

Members have an initial term of one year, with the option to extend for another term or terminated. The responsibilities and benefits for members are the same as those for regular reviewers, with the following additions:

  • Reviewer Board members must review a minimum of one manuscript per year. Members are required to recommend potential reviewers when they are unable to provide a report;
  • Reviewer Board certificates will be provided by the journal.

In the future, every member has the priority consideration to enroll into the Editorial Board based on the comprehensive evaluation.
