Editor Guidelines
Ethical Responsibilities of Journal Editors
All Editors are expected to maintain the highest ethical standards when managing manuscripts submitted to the journal, in alignment with the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
The key ethical responsibilities include the following:
Fair and Objective Assessment: Editors must evaluate all submissions impartially, basing decisions solely on academic quality, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination related to the authors’ background, identity, or institutional affiliation.
Confidentiality: Editors are required to safeguard the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts and related communications throughout the peer review process. Manuscript details should only be shared with individuals directly involved in editorial evaluation and review.
Handling Allegations of Misconduct: If credible concerns regarding ethical misconduct involving authors, reviewers, or editors arise, the Editor should initiate an appropriate investigation in coordination with the journal’s editorial office.
Editorial Discretion: Editors may decline a submission without external peer review if it is clearly outside the journal’s scope or does not meet the journal’s basic quality requirements.
Timely Editorial Decisions: Editors should make reasonable efforts to ensure that manuscripts progress through the review process efficiently and without unnecessary delay.
Management of Editor-Authored Submissions: When an Editor is an author or co-author of a submitted manuscript, responsibility for the editorial and peer review process must be delegated to an independent member of the editorial or advisory board.
Post-Publication Corrections: In cases where substantial errors or inaccuracies are identified in a published article, Editors should work with the journal to issue appropriate corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions where necessary.
Responsible Use of Unpublished Content: Editors must not use any data, ideas, or analyses from submitted manuscripts for personal research or other purposes without explicit permission from the authors.
Protection of Submission and Review Data: Editors must ensure that all submission materials and peer review records remain confidential. Content from unpublished manuscripts should not be uploaded to public platforms, external databases, or tools that do not ensure data privacy or may reuse such content. This includes refraining from the use of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for handling unpublished manuscripts or peer review materials.
